Student life
The University’s International Students Office is available to all overseas students, from the initial admission consultation or application and throughout their study life. To help students settle in as soon as possible, the University hosts a free orientation week in September and January, which aims to introduce the academic, cultural and social activities of the University of Derby, as well as the British way of life. Of course, in general, the goal of orientation week is to make new students happy. The Student Union has an Advice Centre which provides information and support to students on a wide range of academic and welfare matters such as funding, housing and law. The Student Union is also responsible for a number of clubs and societies, including sports clubs such as football, rugby and tennis, and cultural societies including the Chinese Student Union, the Law Society and the International Student Society, which aims to help international students integrate with university life and increase their understanding of different cultures.
All students, regardless of their faith, have access to appropriate pastors and religious guides. These religious officers will listen patiently, build friendships and provide confidential support to students seeking services. The pastors represent the major Christian churches. There are also religious guides for Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus, Buddhists and Jews.
