The University of Texas at El Paso is a four-year state university that is part of the University of Texas system. The school was founded in 1914, formerly known as the State Mining College, the campus is located in the mountainous Gobi zone, mining distribution area. With the reorganization of the University of Texas system in 1920, the State School of Mines was renamed the University of Texas School of Mines and Smelting, and in 1949 it was again renamed the University of Texas Western College, and in 1967 it was changed to its current name – the University of Texas at El Paso.
